Jill DeGroff is a New York based artist who has made a name sketching in cafes and bars around the world, and has in recent years, gained an international following in the spirits industry for her portrayals of renowned bartenders and mixologists.
Departing from tradition, she steers clear of celebrities and instead, aims her paint brush at cafe society: bartenders musicians, chefs, proprietors, and "denizens of the night", documenting the nightshift with pen, watercolors and pad while enjoying jazz , cocktails, and the repartee of some of the greatest drinkers on earth.
Drawing inspiration from the dark world of Otto Dix and post War Germany's Verist movement, and Al HIrschfeld's Speakeasies of 1932, her soulful renditions fall somewhere between caricature and portraiture, and appear in industry publications here and abroad, including Theme Magazine (UK), Imbibe Magazine, Beverage Media, My Table (USA), Mixology Magazine (Berlin) and Bartender Magazine (Slovakia)
