The
Legend of Adelita
When
Pancho Villa crossed over to the United States at the turn of the century
and Teddy Roosevelt and his Roughriders were asked to fight and capture
Pancho Villa dead or alive, Adelita's fame grew in both northern Mexico
and over all the southwestern states. She was known for her great cooking
and had earned a reputation for feeding the poor children of Mexico. Love
songs were written about her beauty and unconditional love for Pancho Villa.
Every Mexican man dreamed of having a beautiful Adelita, as a wife and every
Mexican woman dreamed of being an Adelita whose love for her man had no
boundaries.
